Summer is near, and for many of us that means trips to the beach, pool or maybe even a fabulous tropical vacation. If you’re feeling a bit pasty after winter, you aren’t alone! With all we now know about the dangers of tanning outdoors or in a tanning bed, I want to share with you a much safer and much quicker option. It’s so easy to create your own sunshine right in your own home and get a safe, natural glow in just 3 easy steps.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Before you apply any sort of self tanning product, it is always best to exfoliate the skin to properly prepare it for color. It will help you to get a more natural look and it may last longer too! If you have JERGENS® Natural Glow® Color Primer In-Shower Scrub on hand, it makes a great choice for exfoliating. Otherwise, a body polish or scrub, or an exfoliating sponge or loofah work great too! I like soaking in the tub and using my exfoliating sponge in the tub or right after I get out.

Step 2: Apply Tanning Products

There are so many great options for tanning from JERGENS®, they have been my go-to brand for years. I like using JERGENS® Natural Glow® 3 Days to Glow™ Moisturizer when I want a good tan within a few days for a last-minute event, or on areas of my skin that are a bit lighter than the rest. Otherwise, I tend to use JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer to gradually build up a tan and to maintain it.

Just smooth the gradual glow moisturizer on evenly and thoroughly as if it were a regular moisturizer. You can apply either product daily until your desired color is achieved, then apply once or twice a week to maintain it. Remember to use the gradual glow moisturizers sparingly on areas like elbows, knees, ankles and in between fingers and toes. You can even apply a regular moisturizer first to help minimize extra color absorption. It only takes a few minutes to cover your whole body and it’s so much safer than the hours it would take outdoors to achieve the same color!

Step 3: Use SPF

While I was shopping at Walmart for my JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer, I also made sure to stock up on sunscreen. To me, this is a very important third step in building and maintaining a safe natural glow! Be sure to get high SPF products both for your body and face (I stick to 30 and higher) and apply enough to adequately protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. About a shot glass full for your body and a nickel sized amount for your face will protect you for an hour or two. Reapply every 2 hours, and even more often if you’re swimming or sweating!

You can find both of the JERGENS® products that I mentioned at Walmart stores, typically near the moisturizers. I noticed a coupon saying “Save $3.00 on any 2 full size Jergens® Natural Glow® Product” on some of the products the day I was there, bonus! I noticed that they also carry the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Instant Sun® Sunless Tanning Mousse at Walmart, which is a great option if you need a tan tonight! Be sure to still exfoliate first and wear your sunscreen during the day! Which JERGENS® product do you think will work best for your own safe natural glow this summer?
