Legoland San Diego, the Perfect Family Destination!

Legoland

What better way to spend a family weekend in San Diego than with a trip to Legoland San Diego?! Being that we live only about an hour away, it was the perfect way for our family to spend the first weekend of summer break this past weekend. We booked a great hotel right across the street, the Grand Pacific Palisades, and upgraded our complimentary media tickets to 2-day passes for even more fun! We got a late start on Saturday due to a really intense Little League playoff game, so the kids were ready to hit the ground running when we arrived!

We started the day at Legoland San Diego with Coastersaurus, excited that our 3-year old was just tall enough to ride. I think afterwards she was wishing she hadn’t been tall enough! We definitely got some great photos on that ride though! One of my son’s favorite attractions at Legoland has always been the Driving School, so we headed there next. He was excited to introduce his sister to Junior Driving School now that she’s finally old enough!

Later in the day we rode on Safari Trek and my daughter loved it. This ride is perfect for the younger crowd, no thrills, just a nice calm safari ride. I love rides like this at Legoland San Diego that have play areas for the kids to build legos in while mom & dad wait in line, it makes it so much easier for them to wait!

We left the park the first night to go spend a little bit of time at our hotel pool as we heard it was a fun spot for kids, and it was, complete with a splash pad and water slide! We then walked over to Karl Strauss for a nice family dinner and some refreshing beverages for mom & dad after a long day of walking! Tomorrow’s agenda, Legoland San Diego Water Park!

We had a great time at the water park, the first couple of hours in the morning there were no lines at all for anything, it was great! The weather was perfect and we were able to snag chairs right in front of the lazy river (above). My daughter loved the Chima play area and I think my son’s favorite was Pirate Reef, we got drenched after riding two times in a row! He felt the water slides could have been better, but we still had a blast.

As a side note for parents looking for a beer, there is one spot here at the water park with local microbrews! It’s a little sweets vendor right near the lazy river entrance, and they had both Modern Times and Pizza Port cans available. The only other places in the entire park that serve beer are in the Sea Life Aquarium and at the Legoland San Diego Hotel, just FYI!

After getting completely exhausted at the water park, we figured we’d hit up a few more rides in the main park and check out Miniland before heading back home. The kids loved the Coast Cruise and mom even got a kick out of the silly sense of humor our tour guide had. Fun for everyone! In Miniland, my Star Wars fan son & husband really got a kick out of the special Star Wars displays. They were so intricate and very cool to see up close!

The last stop of the day for our very worn out kids at Legoland San Diego was San Francisco. They wanted to check out the Golden Gate bridge since their dad is originally from that area! On the way out, we made the requisite stop in the Big Store for some Lego souvenirs to take home. We can’t wait to go back! 1. It is nice place to go with your family and enjoy the resorts, water parks etc. It is one of the best family destinations in world, next to Ireland.
